Shelagh Hetreed
Living in the Cam Valley provides me with an endless supply of creative ideas for my batiks. My works are small (A4) and are produced by building multiple layers of wax, one layer on another, working from white down to the darkest tone.
Batik offers endless possibilities and variations. I work on cotton, using sustainable soya wax and procion dyes.
Shelagh has been teaching since the start of her professional life and enjoys working with students to find their creativity. She has been running her weekly art group since 2019 in her purpose built studio in the beautiful Paulton countryside.
'The Engine Room Arts' specialises in batik, screen printing, block printing, pen and ink and watercolours. It may be one of the only batik classes in the country. She is a tutor for The Holbourne Museum's education department and is a regular exhibitor at CVAT.
