Wenda specialises in individually hand made lino cuts, etchings and woodcuts. After etching a plate or making a linocut and inking them up, they are individually rolled through a hand press to produce a limited edition print. Some of the presses used are over a hundred years old. There are some pictures of the presses on my Facebook page, Wenda Bartlett Arts.
I am mainly interested in depicting wildlife in their natural environments and landscapes showing how the environment changes them. I use the cutting process in these mediums to depict movement, often cutting many times in a relief print to achieve the depth and three dimensional effect I am aiming for. The dramatic effect is achieved by the use of many contrasting colours. Prints done in recent years have been of a series of leaping animals, but also movement in tidemarks and waves, as well as trees and storms.
