Barry Stanson
When I take a moment to think back, my first introduction to pottery was watching the BBC interlude in the mid 50's. I must have been about 5 years old (giving my age away there!) I was mesmerised as I watched a pot being thrown on a wheel.
I was 27 when I finally went to college to study ceramics, mainly focusing on throwing techniques.
Currently I like to produce a combination of both thrown and hand built pieces, sometimes combining the two. I work mainly in Earthenware with slip decoration, but equally enjoy working with Raku, weather permitting!
I have a creative mind and see shapes and forms in most things drawing inspiration from almost anything. For example a crumpled piece of paper can inspire me to produce a textured finish on a pot.
I am my biggest critic always looking to find that illusive form and structure.
