Helen Acosta

I live and work in Bath and I started painting and drawing three years ago after many years of doing an office job. I studied for an online diploma in Pet Portraiture through which I tried different media and found I enjoy working with pastel pencils. I am developing my skills with acrylic paints and I'm still enjoying learning and trying out new things.

I have always loved pets and horses, and together with the beauty of the natural world, they are what inspires me to paint. I use reference photographs to create my portraits, which can be a head study, a whole animal, or a composition of animals against a simple background.

Painting is something in which I can lose myself and is a great way to quieten my mind and live in the moment. It is also a way of appreciating the beauty that is all around us. It helps me to look at things in depth and notice the finer detail, and I enjoy the challenge of creating a likeness that I am pleased with.
