Mari Durnford - Ruiz
Landscapes and flowers in oil on canvas.
I was raised in Spain, in the beautiful city of Madrid.
As a child I loved visiting Madrid’s many art galleries; art was not taught as a subject at school, so being able to enjoy and study masterpieces from Velazquez, Goya and Raphael at the Prado Museum had a lasting effect.
My love of art was rekindled when I went to university in Bath, because I was able to include art as one of my three subjects. After achieving my teaching degree, work and family commitments took over everyday life and unfortunately painting took a back seat.
Retirement has given me the opportunity to fulfil my desire to paint, as well as allowing me the time to be a member of an art club. I mainly enjoy painting land and seascapes on canvas in my favourite medium, oils. I love the colours and textures that nature provides, and I often refer to my past travel experiences to create my compositions.
